A long text – we promise it’s worth reading đ
The upcoming event is a very special one as we invite you to travel back in time to one of the most significant places of Berlin: the former GDR Staatsratsgebäude, where Karl Liebknecht proclaimed the Socials Republic and more recently Erich Honecker ruled the GDR. This venue, usually not available publicly for lectures or guided tours, is in itself a piece of German history.
Currently hosting the European School of Management and Technology, a new up and coming business school, we will be able to visit and enjoy a tour ans session specially set up for Internations members. Get ready to see and touch the very table where the reunification treaty was signed as well as Honecker´s office, now transformed into a distinguished lounge!
We have seen it personally and left deeply impressed by the excellent symbiosis of history preservation and learning fascilities.

âLeading People in a Status-Anxious Worldâ
This session will offer insights on how to lead people with a keen understanding of what âstatusâ is and how itâs affecting the career development of those who work for you. Status is a form of âsocial capitalâ (who you know) that is quite different from âhuman capitalâ (what you know). Using interactive examples, weâll discuss how status creates advantage for those who have it, and (possibly unfair) disadvantage for those without it. Weâll close by identifying the seductive dangers of status and by uncovering insights on how to successfully navigate and lead around these dangers.
- How to recognize who has status in a room full of people youâve never met
- How status affects the careers of scientists
- How to ârescueâ a colleague who is valuable in the workplace but has slipped into a âdoom-loopâ after taking a status hit
Weâll close by identifying the seductive dangers of status and by uncovering insights on how to successfully navigate and lead around these dangers.
This session is led by Matthew Bothner, Full Professor at ESMT and Deutsche Telekom Chair in Leadership and HR Development.
